Marvelous Michigan Musicians! Join me in celebrating a weekend with Madonna and Spencer LaJoye

Episode Description

One performer was at the United Center in Chicago.  One was in a cottage at a rural Christian camp in Southwest, Michigan.  Both were raised in the best state in the midwest.

My wife, my friend Elvira, and I had the opportunity to see Madonna at the United Center.  It was a sensory overload celebration of 40 years of joy, and in some cases poignant memories, through the decades.  We waited three hours, but when she went on…..damn….she’s still got it! From a moving AIDS memorial to stuff that made my prudish side cringe, I had a lifetime concert experience.

If that wasn’t enough excitement for one weekend, my son and I hopped in the car the next morning (I had a hangover – not from alcohol but from starting a concert at 10 p.m. when my new normal bedtime is 9) and drove to Sawyer, Michigan for an equally inspiring and moving concert with singer/songwriter/musician Spencer LaJoye.  Spencer is by far the best loop artist I have ever witnessed. My son and my friend Diane join me in this episode to share that concert with you.

Kenneth McIntosh, author of several acclaimed books on Celtic Spirituality, talks about his latest work which weaves in Eastern traditions

Episode Description

Author Kenneth McIntosh recently published the book, Oak and Lotus: Celtic Christian Spirituality in the Light of Eastern Wisdom. Author Bruce Epperly had this to say about the book.
Kenneth McIntosh’s Oak and Lotus takes you on a holy adventure in which you set sail in your coracle in companionship with Celtic pilgrims, Buddhist monks, Hindu sages, and Taoist wanderers. On your journey, you may catch a glimpse and receive guidance from Brigid of Kildare, St. Brendan, Gautama Buddha, and Lao Tzu. McIntosh describes a spiritual path, and more than that, he provides tools and practices for spiritual transformation. When you read this book, you take a voyage of discovery and venture toward far horizons. This is one of the most inspirational books you will read on interspirituality and the universal wisdom of the Celtic sages.”
In this episode Joyce learns more about the title, as well as opportunities to study the book with the author in an upcoming webinar.

BBBQ is going live at Wild Goose Festival 2023 with special guest Spencer LaJoye!

Episode Description

I’m excited to reignite the BBBQ Podcast with a live recording from the Wild Goose Festival on July 14, 2023. My guest, Spencer LaJoye, is a folk/pop singer songwriter, violinist, and vocal loop artist in Boston, MA, who believes everyone is made of the good stuff. A 2021 Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Competition winner, LaJoye (luh-JOY) makes music to tell the truth and return to their body as a queer person in recovery from American Christian evangelicalism. Delivering Broadway-esque melodies accompanied by a weathered dreadnought, their performances are equal parts confident quirk and elegant storytelling.
